I just returned from Rajhans School after dropping my daughter, Durgesh Nandini Satpathy. Today she will write the first exam of her Class 10 CBSE Board exam – her first academic national level exam where she is competing with students from right across the country.
She has been preparing for the exams for a long time now. The exams will run till Mar 15, which is a pain. This is because CBSE has so many subjects offered that even with exams everyday, most students have gaps in their exam schedule.
Anyway, it was hard to get my head around the fact that at 42 I have a daughter who is sitting for her matriculation exam. Life seems to have flitted past and brought this major life event to us before we knew it. It is also very exciting because Durgesh now stands at the threshold of adulthood. Two more years of +2 schooling, accompanied with an extremely rigorous process of preparing for the engineering entrance exams which must be undertaken while maintaining the regular +2. Then she will be off to college – a good one is the hope.
With that our nest will be missing the firstborn.
